Will I get sick if I drank a bottle of Sprite that “expired” a year ago?

Sell date was last June or May. :( I’m so scared I’ll get sick

Why didn't you look before opening the bottle? Also this is the Beer, Wine & Spirits category.

Soft drinks don't “expire”. The “sell by date” is for stock control and is no use to a customer unless they intend re-selling the product!

The only dates that matter to the customer are “use by” and “best before” dates. These dates are just a guide though - you need to useyour common sense too.

Almost certainly not, these tend to have a best before date which is not the same as expiry.  With canned drinks, if it were going bad you'd get the taste of the plastic lining of the can or the metallic taste of the aluminium!

Of course not! It is sugar and water. It doesn't spoil.

"Carbonated soft drinks or sodas are not perishable, and are safe past the date stamped on the container. Eventually flavor and carbonation will decrease. For best quality, consume unopened diet sodas within 3 months after the date expires; regular sodas within 9 months."
