Do Mexicans in Mexico celebrate Cino de Mayo?

No. It is not all that important to them. In fact, I think 30 April is a more important day. That is when the Mexicans beat the French Foreign Legion. In fact the French Foreign Legion holds that battle as one of the most important in their history, even though they lost. Beating the French Foreign Legion is a much bigger thing than just beating the French Army, considering how quick the French surrender.

No. It was a minor battle with the French in Puebla. It was Mexicans from Puebla in Los Angeles who started celebrating it as a holiday. It spread- mostly because people wanted an excuse to have a celebration in May.
