You were out of your house?  You're supposed to stay inside.  Do you want me to report you to the government?

They transport goods and do it cheaper than trucks.  There is little interaction with other people at either end or in transit.  In transit, the staff is incredibly small.

Better question to ask is why people decide to make long road trips during all this and why so many want to drive at incredibly high speeds now while on those trips.

To transport things that are still being sold or used, like fuel, military equipment, etc.

Because freight trains are hauling cargo that people need

Transportation is 'essential'.  Grocery stores and drug stores have to remain open, and how do you think groceries and drugs get there?  Long haul trucking is still going too.

The primary sector of the economy is still working, it's the secondary/tertiary sectors which have stopped.
