When can you make a uturn?

I'm a new driver in the USA. I was wondering when it is allowed to make a UTurn? I can never tell if you are allowed to make a uturn or not.

It is never allowed. It is never Legal. So you do it when there are no cars for miles.

You'll know if a U-turn is legal; because, if it's not, there will be a sign posted on every block that says "No U-Turn".  Almost no busy street permits U-turns from the middle of the street.

Making a U-turn on a busy two-way street can be very dangerous - for yourself and for drivers on the other side of the street. Avoid doing so.

There are legal, marked turning lanes at almost every stop light that will allow you to "cross over" to the other side of the street and travel in that direction.

The rules depend on which state you are driving in. Each sate has its own laws and you should obtain a copy of the rules from the state DMV website where you live. . As a general rule, you cannot make a u-turn at an intersection or near one unless marked as allowed. You cannot make a u-turn across a solid center line or on a divided highway,

Laws vary from state to state, check the laws were you live such as "legal u-turns in Georgia"

Every state DMV has a paper handbook. You probably have to look online because of the crisis.

If you are at a controlled intersection it will be marked if it is NOT OK to make a U-Turn - no sign U-Turn is legal.

Just don't stop in the middle of a two or four lane road and swing a U-turn if there isn't a left turning lane.

The rules are tricky.  On a residential street it's usually OK, but not in the business district.
