    Maybe it's your neighbor!

My next door neighbor is Bulimic and she was making so much noise last night, that I banged on the wall and shouted...

"For goodness sake, keep it down!"

You  should explain more as your question doesn't tell what kind of noise are you refering to? But maybe thunder storms or just voice of wind which can create really weird strange noises.

Down here we are accustomed to hearing painful screams,

squawks and pitiful croaking but it is only the corellas.  It would be pretty quiet here if it were not for them.  Don’t know why exactly but the flocks seem to be growing in numbers.  Noticed they are spending more time in school fields ripping up all the grass, perhaps as the children are yet to return.

Thunder?  You need to describe the sounds you are hearing or we can't help you.

Go to an audiologist. You may have a build up of wax in your ears. It can press against the eardrums causing strange noises to be heard, particularly in the quiet of night.

Probably jet airliners.  Or low flying small aircraft.  Or owls.  Or thunder.  Fill in the blank yourself because nobody here knows what sounds you hear at night.
