An actor is a person who creates a fully fleshed out character.

A movie star is a person who pretty much plays a version of themselves over and over.

Nothing subtle about the difference between the two.

All movie stars are actors, but not all actors are movie stars.

Are you being serious? There's nothing subtle about the difference. In fact, there's a HUGE difference.

Both are actors. Because they ACT. But a star is famous. He or she stars in big Hollywood films, goes on endless interviews and film events, has tons of fans, gets offers to star in other big Hollywood films, makes a lot of money, etc.

Simply an actor, on the other hand, the only 2 things in common he or she has with a star is they act and they do it because they're passionate about the craft. An actor can be an amateur or a professional. Almost all of them non-stars hold other jobs alongside acting so they can pay the rent. No one knows who they are, maybe except for their network of connections. They often live in a small cheap apartment, starving for food, far away from home and lonely. They rarely get more than a few minor roles, on minor productions, not big Hollywood films. If they do get to go to a big film premier, the press does *not* take *their* photos or interviews *them*, but the stars. They enter the movie theater from the back door, unlike the stars who take the front.

Michael, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? It's just really hard to believe that anyone over the age of 6 wouldn't know the difference between a movie star and an actor. Or any of the other things you've asked about. Or that you don't know how to use Google. Or that you're not trolling.

    Anyone can (try to) act.

A "movie star" is an actor who over time

becomes well known and liked for acting in films.

The popularity of the person I suppose. There are thousands of actors but far fewer movie stars.
