Can i paint on my canvas with acrylic paint without gesso?

im a beginner and i saw on YouTube that u have to put gesso first. I don't have enough material at home to make one so could i just go and paint directly instead?

You could, but you're probably going to regret it. It's going to be a pain in the butt. The canvas will absorb the acrylics and you'll need a lot of paint, the flow and blending will be affected as well.

Go get some gesso or order it online and have it delivered. It's be a few days delay before you can start, but it will be worth it, I promise.

You would waste paint because the canvas will absorb a lot of it and it will be prone to cracking unless you apply it water-thin, and it will not glide very easily. You can buy a canvas where gesso has already been applied if you do not want to go through the trouble.

You can but the texture of the canvas will be visible.
