That my friend is a Peacock Cichlid it grows about 6 inches it needs to be at the minimal of a 45 gallon tank if not bigger. That tank is way to small for it to be house in.

Yes, the tank is too small. Fish are normally in the ocean, a pond, or a lake, which has a ton of space. Fish need a lot of space to swim around.

yes. any fish is too big for a 5 gallon tank unless they are fry. it’s considered cruel to keep them in a tank too small. luckily, you can upgrade to a 20/30 gallon by ordering a cheap one online or finding a used one! he also needs some more hiding spots because he is too big for the ones in the tank. you can still use those decorations in your new tank though!

    • 20/30 is the smallest you can go without being harmful to your fishy. if you can afford it definitely go for a 55 and find him some friends!

The only fish that can be kept in a 5 gallon for anything other then quarantine is a single betta.

That fish looks like a cichlid of some sort that needs a 55 gallon tank most likely

If it is some sort of dwarf, maybe an apisto, a 20 long might sufice depending on tankmates, cleaning schedual, and species.

Are you sure that is a five gallon?  it looks like a half gallon or less.
