What are the animals on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse side of the one-cent coin?

There are none.  The steps are bare. There are two urns on pedestals. It is hard to tell exactly what design Gasparro used to face the frontal areas to the right and left of the steps (which are not part of the steps), but they are not animals. Gasparro never personally visited the Lincoln Memorial and apparently came up with the design based on photographs.
