Why Reconquista  711-1492 took so darn long?

It believed roughly around 10 million died in that war. But why it did last for centuries?

Because it was a series of campaigns, and not a co-ordinated effort while it was happening. Those campaigns were not lumped together under one name until long after the event.

It took so long because it wasn't a single war.

And because the "sides" weren't unified allies.
