Would the Olympics allow this?

If an athlete is American but their parent immigrated from another territory would the athlete be allowed to compete for the parent’s native country even though they themselves were not born there.

    Yes and no.  There have certainly been cases of athletes swapping countries.  The Olympic Committee for each country determines how long an athlete has to reside in the country to be eligible to compete for the country.  However, someone born in America to Greek parents (for example) can't simply claim to be Greek, the link to the country has to be more substantial than that.

    Yes, that's happened before and it's not uncommon. Over 30 Kenyan born athletes competed for other countries in the 2016 games competed for other countries. See: https://qz.com/africa/759279/bahrains-gold-medal-o...
