What should you say if your teenage daughter argues that Taiwan, Japan and South Korea are nothing more than semi-colonies and puppet states?

For expanding American imperialist interests in East Asia?

    You can say it is a very successful economic and political model, and one which China is also emulating with its Belt and Road initiative extending its active sphere of influence.  There is no such thing as a free lunch, and no such thing as a free country either in this age of superpowers.

    I would say to ask the citizens of those countries if they think they are puppets of the American Imperialists.  South Korea is still at war with North Korea, seventy years later, because the North will not sign a peace treaty, and they would invade, murder and rape the South if the Americans left.
