Where could dampness on the bathroom rug be coming from?

It is near the sink and vanity. No ceiling leaks and can't see any obvious leaks around sink or tub. What is puzzling is it's worst around a vanity that isn't near any plumbing. The damp areas are like two semi-circles against opposite bathroom walls.

Remove the rug and check if water is coming out of the walls.  Might have a small plumbing leak in the walls.

Go up in the attic and see if there is any water.  Roof leak.   If not.  how much water and does the water spot get bigger.  If you wipe it up, how does it appear. Does it come out of the wall.  Both at the same time?  You will have to do more frequent inspections to see how the water spot grows.
