Why am I crying about the Edmund Fitzgerald and it’s song ?

Is it because of other stress factors or is this just a song to cry to? The part about the Detroit cathedral really got to me. Please listen to the song BEFORE you answer

I don't know why you are crying, but the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is one in the line of historical songs. Back Back Back in the day, singing mistrals was the way that news sped, so history ballads are a standard of music.

Gordon Lightfoot did a good song.

If you want a disconnect between melody and meaning, just listen to this song about the sinking of the Titanic. It came out about a month after the disaster.
