Would you say that baking is a type of cooking, or would you categorize them as two separate things?

It seems a lot of people have differing opinions on this.

The dictionary definition of 'to cook' is 'to prepare food, a dish, or a meal by combing and heating the ingredients in various ways'. That sounds like it covers baking.

Baking is a method of cooking, so it falls under the umbrella of 'cooking'.

Of course it's a type of cooking. Baking is specifically for oven-made products, hence the name 'baking', but it is cooking only.

I would say that baking (i.e. cooking in an oven) is a subset of cooking (i.e. generally preparing food).  But of course people get precious about this, or anything else they fuss over.
