Why doesn't the UK close its borders?
Like the borders between England and Wales, England and Scotland, and northern and Republic of Ireland to slow the spread of covid 19. It's working in Australia closing the state borders and we've had only about 100 deaths compared to the UKs whopping 40,000 plus deaths

Probably because no one has the manpower to close the borders.
"It's working in Australia closing the state borders ..." Public education in Australia?

The virus had already spread across the whole of the UK by the time they went into lockdown in March so they couldn't have even attempted to close the internal borders which are riddled with dozens of roads. Anyway only essential travel was permitted. As others have pointed out, the distance between places in Australia is huge (30 times bigger land area than the UK and only with 1/3rd of the population) and the population is mostly clustered around the state capitals. Stopping traffic crossing borders on the main interstate highways is therefore much more effective.

All the borders in the UK are open including to the Republic of Ireland.
The population of Australia is a lot smaller than the UK.

The UK does not have states. It is a unitary country. And what's the point when there are only two internal borders?

The borders between these countries are many, no road blocks just one road leading to another.
Look at a map.

It's probably a bit late at this point.

Each country in the UK makes their own rules.... the island of Ireland has much lower numbers than Great Britain, simply as more restrictions and controls have been in place, NI/ROI border has only just reopened........ however Austrialia is the size of the whole of Europe in its 2.9 million square miles and has very little population of 25 million while the population of ROI and UK is over 70 million living in a 93,630 square miles
