Do you believe that history is history is history or should the left be allowed to rewrite it to fit their narrative?

History can be very messy. One sides official report is written from one perspective while the other sides official report is written from another. One event, two very different stories.
Example: Texas Revolution. Col. Fannin in sends soldiers to evacuate refugees from Refugio Mission. Fannin’s account reports a complete routing of the enemy but Gen Filisola said the conscripts didn’t regroup because they didn’t speak Spanish. Wait! What?
This one event is enough to lead you so far afield you might never get out of the weeds. You need to be very open minded and ready for anything when you study history. Note: one footnote does not make a history lesson.

How do you know that the "history" you read about in school is the "real" history? For example, most people believe that Betsy Ross sewed the 1st American flag. That is incorrect. Sometimes we don't learn what really happened about events until much later - if ever.

History is always subjective because it's recorded by those left alive and those with the written communication skills to have it remembered as they see fit. But the fact that things like the '1619 Project' have taken hold of the imagination of some isn't because history wasn't recorded but rather because we've allowed a generation of public school students to become entirely ignorant of it. It's not like the original documents aren't available in the Library of Congress for anyone who wants to know. The US just isn't that old that our history is entombed in breakable clay tablets or vanished because papyrus is fragile.

Fortunately for (people who are not Leftist Liberals) the Left, which includes Democrats in politics and their media partners, have no credibility remaining.
I think history depends on new revelations in order to be changed/rewritten and not just an opinion from some negative group that can benefit from the change. In the Left's case, their group has the view that America is not a good place with US in control of things in government and in society.

If the way to avoid repeating mistakes by society is to learn from the past what those mistakes were then how is that supposed to happen when history has been erased?

I believe history is history and that the right has been rewriting it to fit their narrative.
