Plants that can grow in water?

Can anyone please recommend a plant stem that can grow in water? I have a brass vase and want to use it with just water inside it. Maybe I could put liquid fertilizer. But not planning on using soil. Something other than bamboo. Which has thin stems coz the mouth of the vase is very small. 3-4 inches. Thanks

We have a glass vase with ivy growing in water with decorative fish tank gravel and glass stones for the roots to have something to hang on to. Be sure to keep your water level up, especially in the hot weather.

Any plants can grow on water. It’s called hydroponics. It just needs nutrients to survive.
