Why is it necessary to feed street dogs and cats now?

Well, they can get lured meaning you can keep them coming and can help them doing something useful with them. For instance, if they go off somewhere else and get sick and get a contagious disease you can at least send them off somewhere.

It's not allowed where I live.  "Street dogs and cats" are trapped and rescued.

Who said it was necessary.  Its not - you can choose to do it but its not really helping the problem as the animals are not spayed/neutered.

It is not necessary.  & it always brings in more dogs & cats cause each one will bring a friend the next time they come.  You must live in a country with lots of stray dogs & cats.  We don't have that here.

It isn't. They should be trapped, assessed, and either euthanized or vaccinated and altered and found homes depending on health and temperament.

Stray cats and dogs are a human-created detriment to the environment and native wildlife animals. We don't have populations of strays or street dogs or cats here. Any strays are promptly trapped or otherwise captured and taken to the shelter. If not claimed by an owner they are found a home or euthanized.

Now? People have been feeding feral dogs and cats for hundreds of years. I don`t really understand whet you are getting at with this question though.

There’s no law or ordinance stating you need to feed feral dogs, however since they are not wolves and it’s pretty doubtful they will organize a pack, take down wildlife such as deer and wild goats, wild sheep.... most would starve to death or staet tirn8ng on what food sources they can easily get at.

There was a feral pack of seven dogs at a friends property, the dogs were all 45 pounds or larger.  They managed to kill a pony, shred apart the families dog, and killed two pet goats before. The sheriffs department was able to trap two and shoot the rest.

Because the dogs had been running free for over four years and were noted pet killers and livestock killers the authorities had no choice other than to humanely put the surviving pack members down.  They could no longer be trusted with people, other animals and especially children.

We tend to see it as more humane to set food out for the unrated dogs and cats rather then to watch then starve to death slowly and then consume the remains.  Something nobody thinks about when they decide to drive an hour from home, take all the I.d. off the dogs and turn them “free” to live in the wild.   To many children’s stories or too much tv... wishful thinking  or just plain stupidity.

One of the puppies we found out in the middle of a soybean field when he was about 12 weeks old was a purebred lab.  We traced him to the breeder and they contacted the owner to ask hoe the puppy was they paid $2500 for.  “We gave the pup away, it wasn’t housebroken, kept having accidents and wouldn’t listen to commands”. When the breeder asked why they didn’t train the puppy, they responded with something on the line of ‘well we checked both parents, they were very well behaved and well trained, they did not past those manners to their puppy, we must have picked a dumb one’

Luckily I was reissued papers on the pup for ownership.  He turned out to be a very smart very gentle pup.  Has better manners than several of my dogs which are much older.   His older brother as I call him (another lab 4 months older) he is quite hyper by comparison and needs to burn off energy before we can work with him.  He’s very hard to focus but once he settles he’s all work.

It isnt necessary.   Its actually ILLEGAL in many places.   Thry should be trapped and taken to animal control, not fed.

Because it is the humane thing to do.

It's definitely not necessary. Some feral animals have chosen to live that way, especially (some) cats. They may have been being mistreated in some way, possibly just simply ignored, by who owned them so they left. Cats are very good at surviving on their own. Both cats and dogs are very capable of hunting and finding their own food. Sometimes, unfortunately, they choose the easiest source of getting something to eat which is in our trash.

People that choose to feed them..well it's just that. The people that do it feel compassionate about caring for the animals so they do what they can to help them survive and be healthy. Feeding them is not necessary it is a choice.
