What can be the cause of multiple infections after a lymph node becomes swollen?

I have had a swollen lymph node for a couple months now. My Dr says it's fine. Ever since it became swollen, I've been getting more infections than usual. I usually get sick literally once or twice a year and since my lymph node became swollen about 3 months ago, I've had at least 5 different infections come & go... is my Dr right to not worry or should I see a different dr?
