Martini glasses are small because the alcohol content of a martini is high.  So a martini glass is too small for a Margarita.

You can serve them up in any type of glass you have.

But they are "best" in margarita glasses (kind of like a champagne saucer at the top but stepped with a bulby bit at the bottom. The purpose of the wide part is to get enough of a salt crust on the edge, which you can't get with a martini glass.

It will do in a pinch, but margaritas are usually served in a larger glass.

No, they are likely to explode if you do that.

Yes, but so would an empty jelly jar. If you can't use the special glasses, salt the rims of double old fashioned glasses an serve on the rocks.

  • A very traditional martini glass will not work because they only hold a few ounces. But one of the modern, giant martini glasses (8 oz +) works pretty well. A blended margarita would work much better than one on the rocks. With that wide a rim, I could easily see ice cubes falling out around the sides of you mouth when you take a swallow! 😬

EDIT: since we still can't post pictures, I'll send you to this image search

The kind that are shallow cones? Yes, they'll serve, especially if you salt the rims. If they don't hold a lot, you may have salt go unused, but not a big deal.
