What can cause an Appendix to hurt if it is NOT inflamed?

I just got my Appendix removed. I have been struggling with severe abdominal, lower back, and neck pain/stiffness for the past couple of weeks. It got to the point where it brought me to tears. Walking would make me feel like I was going to vomit. I went to the E.R. twice. They sent me home the first time saying my appendix was just large, but no inflammation. The pain only got worse to the point where I could barely move. I went back again and they checked everything but was fine. They stated with how localized my pain was (Belly button, right side and below around my hip area) that it could only be my Appendix. They removed it and all my pain is now gone and hasn't returned days later. I woke up being able to move my neck when I struggled with it just before surgery. My appendix was still considered just on the cusp of normal size with no inflammation. Why would it cause me so much pain?
