Why are Democrats vowing to pass slavery reparations if all the slaves are dead?

How can you give slavery reparations away if there are no slaves alive today to receive them? Stupid!

Its their way of trying to BUY MORE VOTES... Plus the FACT THAT MOST DEMOCRITS NOWADAYS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE DEMOCRITS ACTUALLY STAND FOR AND HAVE STOOD FOR IN THE PAST.

'Here is a LITTLE VERIFIABLE FACTS FOR YOU IF YOU ARE EDUCATED ENOUGH TO RESEARCH AND FACT CHECK YOU WILL FIND THEY ARE RIGHT:'When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats? Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civilrights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination. The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynching's, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with theaim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sanford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens;they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans. The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war.The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves.Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln.Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slavesinto the South’s economic and social order.Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped securerights for the newly freed slaves.and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900.The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, region with measures like black codes – laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’sright to vote. And how was all of this enforced?By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest. As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.President Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, shared many views with the Klan.He re-segregated many federal agencies, and even screened the first movie ever played at the White House - the racist film “The Birth of a Nation,” originally entitled“The Klansman.A few decades later, the only serious congressional opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 came from Democrats.Eighty percent of Republicans in Congress supported the bill.Less than 70 percent of Democrats did.Democratic senators filibustered the bill for 75 days, until Republicans mustered thefew extra votes needed to break the logjam. And when all of their efforts to enslave blacks, keep them enslaved, and then keep them from voting had failed, the Democrats came up with a new strategy: If black people are going to vote, they might as well vote for Democrats. As President Lyndon Johnson was purported to have said about the Civil Rights Act,“I’ll have them n*****s voting Democrat for two hundred years. So now, the Democratic Party prospers on the votes of the very people it has spent much of its history oppressing.Democrats falsely claim that the Republican Party is the villain, when in reality it’sthe failed policies of the Democratic Party that have kept blacks down. Massive government welfare has decimated the black family.Opposition to school choice has kept them trapped in failing schools.Politically correct policing has left black neighborhoods defenseless against violent crime. So, when you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party should come to mind?

African-Americans disproportionately vote Democrat. It's another money grab from people who do not vote Democrat.

Well I think maybe you're not being creative about the kinds of reparations that might make a difference.  Reparations and restitution are two separate words.  Maybe a good place to start, if we're serious about repairing some of the damage caused by slavery would be to acknowledge that it has an impact today on people whose ancestors were slaves, and even people who's ancestors weren't slaves but were just victims of discriminatory policies and social norms that were present in our country after slavery was abolished.

Maybe a decent reparation to begin with would be just to issue a formal apology on behalf of the country, and our ancestors who oppressed and repressed black Americans over the years.

I'm not sure there's any amount of money that would satisfy the debt owed due to slavery, nor is there anyone around today who's personally liable to pay that kind of restitution, but I think it's pretty easy to see that the way things played out weren't fair to black Americans, and they continue to remain unfair in several ways, so even though we can't repair everything, that shouldn't stop us from fixing the things that are easy to fix.

Let's start by trying not to be racist. Seems like the least we could do.

Democrats are in a bad position. On one hand black racists want some free money for their people. On the other hand white people think (and rightfully so) that they shouldn't have to pay and give money to non-slaves for what 1% of rich whites in the past did. Most white people didn't own slaves. It is very racist to push for such very divisive policies. Of course Democrats won't dare support reparations. They're only pretending to consider it to placate the racist black groups. However they're adding legitimacy to it by taking it seriously. What they need to do is ignore the few black extremists; they already have 75% of the black vote in their pockets. Focus on winning over poor whites who feel neglected. Because let me tell you winning a few points more of blacks voters at the expense of losing more white voters is not a smart move.

Pandering. 'Reparations' were paid in the 1860s in the form of blood; broken bodies and broken lives; entire cities burned to the ground; families torn apart, etc.

You know there are a lot of grandchildren (of however many "greats") of those people alive today, right? And if members of your family were abused and forced to provide free labor, would it not be right for that work to finally be paid up to their direct descendants?

After all, had they been paid and not enslaved, that would have given their families a much different start in this country that would have impacted the situation of where some families are today.

Reparations is debatable, but I think back pay is fair...

"Sloganism" is a standard tactic of the leftists.  The slogans are not based in reality.  The cry for "reparations" is a good example.

Who's stupid is you. When someone dies and money is owed to them, that debt belongs to their estate, which is the property of their heirs. That's the law. So reparations are an unpaid debt owed to the descendants of slaves.  Don't be stupid while calling everyone else stupid, stupid, because that's just stupid.

  • yea thats something i dont really think is a good way to go about this

    reperations wont actually solve anything

like giving 50 bucks to  the person whos grandpa you ran over
