While watering the lawn, persons in the house do not have a hot water shower. Why?

People in the house tell me not to water the lawn when they want to take a shower because the water isn't hot.

It shouldn't affect the water temperature, only possibly the water pressure. They may want to have a plumbing contractor/handyman look into it if it is affecting the water temperature. Some homes were not correctly plumbed/wired when being built.

If properly plumbed, the hose to water the lawn should be hooked to a spigot that is  directly piped to COLD water only.  First, check the piping to be sure that this is correct. Second, in some places, the water pressure drops so much it is hard to take a shower and even run water in a sink, so this may be the answer.  The people are saying "Hot water" when they should be saying "water pressure."

If the plumbing is inadequate, as in most dwellings built prior to 1985. The Water Heater cannot refill AND heat the reservoir fast enough. In really old houses even using the wash basins, laundry, flushing toilets will reduce water flow to fill the Water Heater Tanks.

It is the water pressure for the most part..

While it may seem unrelated, the initial water source is the same. Using Cold Water reduces the feed flow to the Heated Water, thus reducing the flow pressure to the Hot Water tanks. The more abundant (direct) flow the the cold water is thus increased to over whelm the hot water provider.

That makes no sense whatsoever.  A water hose should not affect hot water.
