In 1979 at the Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, 16 year-old Brenda Spencer began shooting at children waiting for the school principal to open the gates from her home across the road. She killed the principal and the school custodian, severely wounded eight children and a responding policeman.

When asked why she did it, she simply responded, "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day."

Her response inspired Bob Geldof to write The Boomtown Rats song "I don't like Mondays"

Not really a mass shooting but more of a threatened mass shooting/hostage situation. In 2010 an environmentalist named James Lee infiltrated the HQ of the Discovery Channel in Maryland and threatened to kill everyone if the programming wasn't changed to suit his agenda. Ultimately the gunman was the only one killed. His gripe was TV shows about large families because he felt overpopulation was destroying the planet.
