Yes, over relatively short distances it can as with all respiratory viruses. Sneezing or coughing is the way an infected person will spread most virus particles. However, even just talking can release virus particles into the atmosphere.

Before this Covid-19 Pandemic, a very common way for someone to catch a flu virus was in the following way. A person infected with the flu virus sneezes or coughs and while doing so covers their mouth and nose with their hand. Then they get hold of a door handle to open a door. A short time later another person comes along and uses the same door handle and a few minutes later may rub their face or nose because of an itch. They are now infected. The virus has travelled in the air when the first person sneezed on to that person's hand. The first person then transmitted some to the door handle. The second person picked up the virus off the door handle onto their hands. Then when they rubbed their face they put virus particles within easy proximity of their upper respiratory tract.

This is the reason why we are being encouraged to keep 2 m from other people, to wear face masks, to cough into our elbow if we have no tissues rather than on to our hands, to wash or sanitise our hands frequently and not to touch your face unless you have just washed your hands.

where have you been for the last months?  That is its principle means of transmission.  Someone coughs or sneezes or even talks loudly, and drops of moisture filled with the virus fly thru the air.

Which is why we should all be wearing face masks whenever we are near other people, Trump to the contrary.
