Will Rollerskating help with on ice skating?

Or will one help the other as far as developing the skill and experience

Yes it will help but one needs to specialize these days to excel.

  • Yes and no.  Using in-line skates is a good way to get conditioning work in while replicating a skating stride, but there's several differences.

-Hockey (and I presume figure) skates have edges which are used on stops and starts; in-line skate wheels don't.

-Learning how to use edges is a basic fundamental to skating.  Even pros work on their skating in the off-season.

-Stopping on the ice as opposed to in-line skates is completely different.

My wife said one does not help with other. She roller skated a lot while a teen but couldn't ice skate at all.

I did both, ice skated years before roller skating, going from one to the other was not an issue so I assumed that ice skating had helped.
