SSL Certificates are small data files that are digitally bound to a cryptographic key of an organization’s details and when an SSL certificate is installed on a web server, a padlock and https protocols are activated. This ensures a secure connection from a web server to a web browser.

In websites, an SSL certificate is a digital certificate that is used to prove a website's identity. For instance, when you go to google.com, you want to be sure that you're actually connecting to google.com and not some other website pretending to be Google.

If you want to learn more about the technical side of public key certificates, consider reading the Wikipedia article on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_key_certifica... or this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hExRDVZHhig
