Determine the inverse of a given function?

    Let f() = y 

    Hence y = 4x - 7 

    Add '7' to both sides 

    y + 7 = 4x 

    Divide both sides by '4' 

    x = (y + 7) / 4 

     'swop' the letters 

    y^(-1) = (x + 7) / 4 

    f^-1(x) = ( x + 7) / 4    The Inverse.

    f(x) = 4x-7

    If g(x) is the inverse of f(x), then f(g) = x

    f(g) = 4g-7 = x

    4g = x+7

    g(x) = f^(-1)(x) = (x+7)/4

  • Switch x and y, then solve for y

    y = 4x - 7

    Switch x and y

    x = 4y - 7

    Solve for y

    x + 7 = 4y

    y = (x + 7) / 4
