Can they really predict how bad a hurricane season we might have? ?

I live in Florida and I read that 16 tropical storms are going to form and out of those half will become at least level 3 hurricanes, and it's got me upset. Could this possibly be true?

Well, they're at 9 already this season with Isaias with a 10th predicted to be forming. Only 2 have been hurricanes at this point.

They take an educated guess based on temperatures and weather patterns, but they're not always right (or even close in some cases).

Of course they can really predict how bad a hurricane season we might have. 

Whether the predictions are accurate is the question not asked.
