A 2 L flask was filled with 0.04 mL SO2 and 0.02 mol O2. At equilib at 900 K, the flask and 0.0296 mol SO3. How many mol of each substance  ?

    The reaction is,

    amount mol 2SO2(g) + O2(g) ⇔ 2SO3(g)

    Starting 0.04 0.02

    Change : - 0.0296 - (0.0296/2) + 0.0296

    = 0.0148

    Equilibrium (0.04-0.0296) (0.02 - 0.0148)

                         = 0.0104.         = 0.0052

    S0 number of mol of each substance present in flask at equilibrium ia as below:

    0.0104 mol SO4 ; 0.0052 mol O2 and 0.0296 mol SO3

    2 SO2 + O2 → 2 SO3

    This question cannot be answered without knowing the pressure and temperature of the "0.04 mL SO2" before it was put into the 2 L flask.

    This question could also be made answerable by changing "0.04 mL SO2" to

    "0.04 mol SO2" in case of a typo.
