This is a 4:1 stock split so each share of Apple stock will become four shares of Apple stock.  In other words owners of Apple stock will be given three additional shares of Apple stock for each share they own.

Say you have 100 shares of Apple stock that is selling for $200. After the split, you will have 400 shares at $50 each. Same valuation.

A 4-for-1 stock split means a person owning 1 share will have 4 shares after the split.  The price of each share will be 1/4 as much as before.
