When feminists talk about a tampon tax, are they referring to state sales tax that applies to thousands of items ?

Or is there some tax unique to tampons women must pay when purchasing tampons?

Yes. They are referring to taxes on hygiene products that affect all products that are classified as a hygiene product regardless of which sex it is for.

From "state sales tax", I assume you mean in the United States?

You're right, it's not a special tax levied on tampons, it's paying sales tax on tampons. 'Tampon tax' calls attention to the fact that, while most basic necessities are exempt from sales tax, tampons are not (in most states).

No they’re referring to a unique tax

The more rational ones are merely suggesting that in the states where things like groceries don't have a sales tax added that tampons be added to that long list of "essentials" that aren't taxed by those states. Clearly at the other end of the spectrum there are those who think such items should just be free. But as fewer young women use these products (opting instead of reusable menstrual cups and other more environmentally friendly products) this will probably cease to be a debate.

Neither, they're talking about the cost of the products, which is about $200 extra bucks a year men don't have to spend. This is nothing for people with money but for poor people, it's a lot.

"When feminists talk about a tampon tax, are they referring to state sales tax that applies to thousands of items ?"

Yup.  Feminists feel that they should be exempt from paying normal taxes on product that are used exclusively by women.  Of course, they don't feel that men should be exempt from paying taxes on product that are used exclusively by men.

Just another in a long list of ridiculous assertions made by the modern ideological group known as feminism.
