No, "Godzilla" is supposed to be "Gojira" with an American accent. "Gojira" was the name given to the monster when the original movie was first made, and Americans mispronounced it.

"Gojira" is a blend of ゴリラ ("gorira") meaning 'gorilla' and‎ 鯨 ("kujira") meaning 'whale'. It was popularized by the 1954 movie of the same name. In the planning stage of that movie, Godzilla was described as "a cross between a gorilla and a whale".

The famous Japanese monster is called "Gojira"  (ゴジラ).

"Godzilla" is just a stupid American English mistransliteration.
