Will putting an air conditioner in a window with an awning over it prevent the air conditioner from working efficiently?

    If it isn't very close it should actually help it since the sun won't be shining on it.

    if there is 6 inches or more clearance  allowing for good air flow it will actually  work better

    Put it at least 6 inches on top of surface and you are good.

    Unless the awning is blocking airflow to the unit, it will make it run slightly more efficient, but probably not enough to notice.

    It won't effect the AC unit at all. Just make sure when you put it in the window that you slightly tilt it down on the outer edge so the condensation drains out instead of into the house.

    Only if if falls down and restricts the airflow.
