Why are Charlotte and Raleigh so suburban?

Neither of them have much of an urban core, just one big suburbia

    Because it's the 3rd-fastest growing city in the nation. It makes sense that the city would appear suburban compared to other urban areas across the country since it's more newly developed. Many major cities in the U.S. have populations that have either stagnated or lost population.
