    Of course they expect you to make a bunch of assumptions when they just give you a " finite " graph...going to the right HOW are we to know that the function does not start increasing , to the left it may  become the x axis , etc

    This is just looking at the graph to find the values needed.

    f(x) as x approaches -1 from the left:  ∞

    f(x) as x approaches -1 from the right: -∞

    f(x) as x approaches 1: ∞

    f(x) as x approaches ∞: 3

    f(x) as x approaches -∞: 2
