Why do some Black Americans call the Atlantic Slave Trade a "Black Holocaust".?

The slave trade was a horrible event but it wasn't a genocide. Calling the Transatlantic slave trade "Maafa" or "Genocide of enslavement" is silly.

The weirdest part is that there were actual genocides committed by Europeans against Africans; like the Herrero and Namaqua genocide and the Belgian genocide in the Congo and the French genocide in Algeria. Yet no Africans are labeling these events as a Holocaust.

African slaves were not brought to America in humane conditions. They were chained together in the holds of slave ships pissing and defecating and vomiting on one another for weeks and, when a person you were chained to died, you remained chained to a rotting corpse. Periodically some slaves were simply thrown overboard to drown. In Columbia South Carolina a fiend of a gynecologist called Dr James Marion Simms strapped slave women down in the abandoned jailhouse he leased and vivesected them and performed unnecessary exploratory surgery on them and the medical establishment felt, as it feels today about cruel experiments on animals, that the "benefit to mankind and medical knowledge" justified this. NOTHING can ever "justify" evil like that.

A loose interpretation of the word "holocaust" can be destruction on a massive scale (the dictionary adds usually by fire). Few could argue slavery wasn't mass destruction of black lives. "Black holocaust" is used to contrast the plight of oppressed peoples (like Jews). It's sounds to me you're splitting hairs.

the Atlantic slave trade started with the Dutch interacting with tribes that were constantly waring with each other.... the tribes had a choice of slaughtering them(genocide) or enslaving them. the Dutch simply commercialized it which dehumanized it worse since the system before the Dutch was a family system similar to the Arab slave trade excluding the sex trade.

They've been allowed to go on a self pity party for far too long. It's morphed into something else.
