    Define " major"

It could be anything from two to twenty rivers.

The map in the link below shows over 50 rivers.

But definately at the top of the list would be the Ganges and the Brahmaputra.

Wiki says these are the major rivers

"The major rivers of India are:

Flowing into the Bay of Bengal:

    Brahmaputra,

    Yamuna,

Ganga/ Ganges (with its main tributaries Ramganga, [Gangan], Kali or Sharda, Gomti, Yamuna, Chambal, Betwa, Ken, Tons, Ghaghara, Gandaki, Burhi Gandak, Koshi, Mahananda, Tamsa, Son, Bagmati),

    Meghna,

    Mahanadi,

    Godavari,

    Krishna (and their main tributaries),

    Kaveri

    Flowing into the Arabian Sea:

    Narmada,

    Tapi,

    Sabarmati,

    Purna. "

There are nine important rivers of India and they are: The Ganges, Yamuna (a tributary of Ganges), Brahmaputra, Mahanadi, Narmada, Godavari, Tapi, Krishna, and Kaveri. Parts of the Indus River also flow over Indian soil. Eight important rivers together with their various tributaries comprise the river system of India. https://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/rivers/
