My Lenovo EDU Series laptop doesn't have a jack for a microphone, but it has a headphone jack.

a microphone may not be capable of being recognized there.  and the usual size is 1/8 inch

Looks like it has the fairly standard 3.5mm combo.
If you don't want to buy the special headsets using it, you need to split the microphone and headphone.

There are many sellers and versions, but you should see the 4 point male pin and 2 separately marked female for a headphone and microphone.
