if it weren't for having flippers instead of hands with opposable thumbs would dolphins have become the dominant life on earth?

and humans would have remained tree swinging apes?

Nope there's much more to it......besides, we never swung in the trees.

Dolphins need their flippers to swim. They evolved in the sea and have become marine animals. They simply cannot return to land since they also lost their rear limbs and feet to evolution. Their ancestor lived on land but they left the land to live in the water full time. Dolphins and whales are the dominant predators in the sea because of their intelligence and adaptability.

Humans evolved from an ape because African forests were shrinking and our ape ancestors were driven out of the forests by stronger apes. We evolved on the dangerous African savanna, and adapted to life there where there is little to eat for humans. Dolphins could not have kept us from evolving even if they were land animals since they would not find much to eat on the savanna either unless they can run as fast as a lion on land. We evolved our brain to help us find food where it is difficult to find food for an ape that cannot digest grasses. Our intelligence allowed us to find food that apes do not eat, such as tubers (e.g. potatoes and yam) that are hidden underground, and shellfish that we dig from rocks at low tide.

No, the bacteria will always dominate.

Naaah.. Dolphins may have been termed intelligent, but are they also logical?

Not likely, most of their brain is dedicated to processing information from their environment, not in reasoning.
