1 mph = 5280ft/3600sec = (528/360)fps = (22/15)fps. 600mph = (22/15)600fps

= 22*40fps = 880fps.

Just do the conversions. On the job your co-workers will not do your job.

METHOD 1:

If it is traveling 600 miles per hour, it's traveling 10 miles/minute, or 1/6 mile per second.

A mile is 5280 feet, so 1/6 mile is 5280/6 = 880 ft.

880 ft/s

METHOD 2:

You can do it a little more formally using conversion factors.

1 hour = 3600 seconds

1 mile = 5280 feet

600 miles ... 1 hour ........ 5280 feet

------------- x -------------- x -------------

1 hour ....... 3600 secs .... 1 mile

600 * 5280 / 3600 = 880 ft/s

METHOD 3:

I like to remember that 15 mph = 22 ft/s

Multiplying both sides by 40, we get:

600 mph = 880 ft/s
