What is the italian musical term for playing a guitar and handling the strings with all five fingers instead of using a plectrum?

The instrument itself is  actually  called a "Chitarra battente."

Loosely translated means  a Beating Guitar.......The instrument is played without a plectrum, and the fingers achieve a wide range of effects through plucking, strumming, beating the strings or the sound board.

As far as I know, the style is simply referred to as Fingerstyle, or Fingerpicking.
