Do police K9 officers have to pay for food and vet bills?

I can only answer for my state agency. The answer is no. We receive a stipend each year for food and equipment. My agency gives me $2,500. That is in addition to a state issued custom made truck. And credit card used for gas. All required equipment is issued(GPS, high visibility and custom bulletproof vests ect.) The vet bills are sent directly to the agency.
Note- We are required by state law to get a checkup for our dogs once a month. Which normally only takes about 15 minutes. These checkups are NOT their biannual full work-ups. Just basic health checks and inquiries.
