Which sentence is correct?

A. There was a single knock on the door, before the light went off on its own.

B. There was a single knock on the door before the light went off on its own.

Is the comma in the sentence necessary? Thanks!

This question concerns punctuation, not the sentence. While the comma is my favorite (most frequently used) punctuation mark, B is correct because the comma in A interrupts the idea and is unnecessary.

The comma should definitely NOT be included.
