The money made from selling tickets to fans is actually a comparatively small percentage of the income of MLB teams. Most of their income is from commercial sponsorship deals and TV/radio broadcasting rights deals.

The mlb and pretty much all other leagues are gonna be operating a loss this year. Theyre simply reducing those losses by continuing to play and collecting revenue from tv deals and sponsorships.

    TV and radio broadcasting rights.

  • TV rights deals from local and national deals.

Local revenue this season comes from TV and radio contracts plus stadium advertising. Teams have also sold cutouts to place in empty seats this year to generate additional income.

National revenue comes from TV contracts plus licensing, merchandising, and corporate sponsorships.

MLB estimates that 40% of local revenue comes from ticket sales, concessions and other gate-related income but that revenue stream will be lost to teams this season.

Combine the loss of revenue with the prorated salaries that players will receive and MLB estimates that teams will lose, on average, $875,000 a game in 2020.

Most of it is from the billion dollar TV contract...

Back in the 1980s when George Steinbrenner had his own media deals, people calculated that he could sell zero tickets all season long and still turn a profit.  With the amount of media money having grown exponentially since then, I'm guessing that's still the case even with the rise in salaries.
