why do they call it corona virus?

    "Corona" is Latin for crown and when you look at the virus under a microscope it kind of looks like a crown. Coronavirus is actually a broad class of virus which includes the flu and other diseases like SARS.  But since this disease grew so rapidly they didn't have a name for it yet and it was callled the "novel coronavirus" and so "coronavirus" stuck

    It describes the way it looks under a microscope. The proteins that surround it make it look like a crown. Corona means crown.
