What do you think of all the American electric car startups?

I think they will all get bought out by the big boys.

Nissan and GM have done mediocre at best in the electric car market. It would be wise to purchase some else’s IP and add it to their own.

Real innovation almost always comes from people tinkering in their garages, or from small companies who can't just throw money at a problem.

The thing that's going to have to happen for electric cars to really take off is new battery technology that doesn't rely on rare elements.  A sodium based battery has been in the works for some time now, and would blow the lid off the electric car market.

Standardization of batteries, and the ability to make them swappable would eliminate the 'range anxiety' that still plagues electric cars.  Going on a long trip - or forgot to plug your car in last night?  Just pull up to the station, and have a fresh, fully charged battery slapped in and you are good to go.

On the other hand, you've got corporations that thrive on the proprietary model (as well as the planned obsolescence model) so not only would it be difficult to convince them to all share technology, they actively want things to fail so you have to buy new ones.
