How does repo work if your car isn't at home?

Had a car taking back by default but wasn't even home. Trying to find out how did they find the car.

They can find out where you work, and can get your cell phone history to find the address of your calls.

It works the same way. The only safe place is on your property behind a fence or in a garage.
