PNG and GIF support lossless compression.

However, GIFs are limited to 256 colors per picture. This is fine for simple images and diagrams, but bad for things with color gradients and most pictures taken with a camera. Trying to save complex images as a GIF will force the image to lose much of its color accuracy. This a limitation of the GIF format and not due to lossy compression.

    BMP doesn't compress images.

    JPG uses lossy compression

Some image file formats, like PNG or GIF, use only lossless compression.

  • Obviously PNG!!, it is a raster graphics file format that supports lossless data compression. PNG was created as an improved, non-patented replacement for GIF, and is the most used lossless image compression format on the Internet.

there's no such thing as "lossless compression". just because you can't point the difference doesn't mean the result is lossless. but yeah png is the closest thing to that. and if you wanna save even more space, you can strip the metadata too.

    All except JPG are lossless.

BMP doesn't use compression though, so if the question is about lossless compression specifically, then only PNG, afaik.
